scott fortier


Scott Fortier is the founding Artistic Director of Catalyst Theater Company.   He is a two-time Helen Hayes Award nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor.  He is the recipient of the 2005 Canadian/Washington Partnership Award for Artistic Directors.  In December 2004, Scott was selected by Washingtonian magazine as a “person to watch” for his work with Catalyst.  Scott has performed at many area theaters including Olney Theatre Center, Studio Theatre, Signature Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Charter Theatre and Project Y. With Catalyst Theater Company, Scott has performed in We Are Not These Hands, Metamorphosis, The Elephant Man, 1984, Turcaret, The Night Thoreau Spent In Jail, No Exit and Woyzeck and has produced many of the company's shows.  He has also directed at The Actor's Center and Theater Lab both located in Washington, DC.  Scott graduated with a B.A. in Theater from the Catholic University of America, where he trained under William Graham, Jim Petosa, Halo Wines and Bill Foeller.  At Catholic, Scott was assistant technical director of the scene shop and a founding member of Cabaret, an underground theater group that today is an integral part of Catholic's theater program.  In two tours with the National Players, Scott served as technical director while performing roles including Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Sebastian in The Tempest and Alan Strang in Equus (a role he later reprised at the Olney Theatre Center).  Scott has also taught various theater workshops around the country and continues his involvement in education at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop.
